Ortisei’s got skiing on both sides of the valley, with a mix of wooded valley runs, as well wide-open slopes in the Alpe di Siusi bowl above the village. Add in dramatic Dolomite scenery and reds and blues galore, and you’re set for a week’s scenic cruising. Eager to get more kilometres under your skis? Head for nearby Selva and tackle the 26km Sella Ronda circuit.

Away from the slopes, there’s a proper lived-in feel to the place, with its shops, cafés and age-old church. Small family-run hotels are par for the course here, and you’ll soon feel right at home thanks to the friendly service and fab food. As for après, the action centres around just a handful of bars near the middle of the village. They’re lively though, and some have dancefloors if you fancy the odd night out or a quick boogie before dinner.

Woodcarving’s been a popular pastime here for generations, and the village is dotted with workshops where you can pick a memento from your holiday. And there’s also a little museum if you fancy learning more about the centuries-old art.

Beginners can find their comfort zone on gentle slopes like Val Gardena or Monte Pana, gaining confidence and honing their skills amidst tranquil surroundings. Intermediate skiers and snowboarders can venture through meandering runs through snow-laden forests, reveling in panoramic vistas of iconic landmarks like the Sella Pass and the Sassolungo massif.

Experienced skiers push their limits on the steeper slopes of Monte Pana or venture into the uncharted territories of off-piste powder bowls for an exhilarating adventure.
