Pamporovo is a small ski area, with just 36km of runs that are mostly graded blue or green, so it’s a good pick for beginners. Add in a highly rated ski school and you’ll soon be ready to practise your new skills on the 4km green from the summit. Or if you’ve already got some experience, check out the gentle reds on the north-facing side of the resort.

Beginners

Newbies have a nursery area with magic carpets where they can make their first turns. As for the rest of the ski area, there’s lots of gentle terrain for beginners. And almost all the slopes start at the same place by the Snezhanka tower, which is easy to spot on the peak, and lead right back to the base. If it’s your first week, try the 4km green, Ski Road Pamporovo, before working up to blues like the Stoykite run.

Intermediates

There isn’t much to challenge experienced skiers here, but if you’re looking to take it easy on quiet, sunny slopes, this could fit the bill. There are a handful of blues and reds down from the Snezhanka tower, including Delyovo Dere, which starts off as a blue and then turns into a red halfway down. And you can take the free bus to the even quieter Mechi Chal area to tick off a few more runs there.

Advanced

Stronger skiers will head for the aptly named ‘Wall’, a steep and challenging black mogul field. There is an international slalom course to time yourself on, as well as some interesting long reds.
