Located in the centre of Ellmau, the Hochfilzer is well known for its high standards, but not in a stuffy way – you’ll be welcomed genuinely and treated like an old friend – Austrian style. The team have been around for a long time and are more than happy to go out of their way to make your stay as comfortable as possible.
Since this place is so popular, they’ve had to expand a little. There’s the nearby AlpenPension Claudia, a cosy B&B down the road, and the Haus Garden annexe to the original hotel which is opposite. Both the Claudia and Haus Garden are nicely furnished in keeping with the main hotel – and you’ve still got full access to all the facilities at the Hochfilzer. 4* luxury at 3* prices.
Back in the Hochfilzer there’s some serious style going on – the hotel has been furnished beautifully. There’s been a thoughtful combination of the old and new. There’s also the gorgeously modern wellness suite – the highlights being the panoramic sauna and hot tub that look over the Wilder Kaiser. There’s an indoor swimming pool too.

Please note
If you’re staying in the the Haus Garden or Pension Claudia you’ll still have full access to all the excellent facilities available in the Hotel Hochfilzer’s main building. The Haus Garden is opposite the main hotel, while the Pension Claudia is around 200m away.
Austrian twin beds
Austrian twin beds are very common in Central Europe. They’re simply one large bed frame containing two single mattresses, both with separate duvets and linen sets, that cannot be separated. Separate twin beds are less common and can often be head to head beds, rather than side by side, if they are available.
