The Banchetta Hotel is situated in the centre of Borgata, a small and friendly village just a short distance from the main resort of Sestriere. A perfect place to experience the local way of life which is centred around a couple of bars and restaurants. Borgata has its own chairlift that connects you easily (without queues most of the season) to its very own ski area and the rest of the Milky Way. Read more »Sestriere was the Alps first purpose built resort developed by Fiat’s Giovanni Agnelli in the 1930’s. The resort was built for snow so is high with North West facing slopes and has very extensive snowmaking. The village sits on a broad and sunny col and benefitted from recent investment at the 2006 Winter Olympics. It is very much an international resort that is part of the famous ‘Milky Way’ ski circuit so perfect for your ski holidays this year.
Apres ski in Sestriere is varied and becomes busier at the weekends when the Turin visitors come in. The Pinky is a bar and restaurant with low sofas and classic chic Italian style. Il Caminetto is also a lively place to be. Off the slopes there are some smart shops, a fitness centre and ice rink. There is also a sports centre and pool. It is also possible to visit the town of Pragelato.
As Sestriere is part of the famous ‘Milky Way’ it offers access to a stunning 400Km of pistes. Beginners will find the terrain to be good with several nursery areas and the gentlest of the easy blues down to Borgata. Intermediates will find plenty to amuse them in both of the sectors of Sestriere and confident intermediates will be able to explore practically all of the Milky Way areas.
The runs in the Motta sector are more of a challenge. The huge bowl of the Amfiteatro offers excellent skiing and the black runs at the top of Motta and Sises give the experts plenty of skiing and boarding. There is a terrain park by the Garnel chair at Alpette. Cross country skiers will find three loops covering a total of 10Km.
