Nestled among pine trees, Fieberbrunn’s a proper mountain village – local shops and family-run restaurants line the streets, and a whitewashed church sits at the centre. It’s quiet in the evenings, so swing by the bars near the gondola for some early après, before heading back to your hotel. And as for the accommodation, there aren’t too many places to choose from, but the food and facilities are fantastic, so you can end the day unwinding the spa and eating regional specialities at dinner time.
If you like to pack in some extra action after a session on the hill, head down to the Aubad water park for splash pools and flumes. Or for some high-speed thrills, take a ride down the twists and turns of Timok’s Alpine Coaster.
On the edge of the 270km Skicircus, Fieberbrunn fits the bill if plenty of pistes and a peaceful atmosphere are your top priorities. Conditions are usually excellent too. This resort gets more snow than elsewhere in the Kitzbühel Alps, so it’s no surprise it hosts one of Europe’s top freeride competitions. Got the skills? Hire a guide and check out the world-class backcountry for yourself. Or take things a little easier and rack up the miles cruising scenic reds and blues galore.
Beginners and families will also find plenty of pistes in the Skicircus. In fact, around half of the pistes are classified as blue (easy). Fieberbrunn is particularly good for those just getting their snow legs. As well as a short beginners’ life at the bottom of the resort and many easy pistes further up the mountain, there are also a large number of red (intermediate) slopes, including the “Radarfalle” (“Speed Trap”) run where skiers and boarders can try to set a new personal top speed. There are plenty of mountain restaurants and huts serving excellent food throughout the resort.
