Want the same great skiing as Sölden, but prefer peaceful surroundings? Head for Hochsölden. Up the mountain at 2,090m, it’d be hard to get closer to the slopes. It’s also one of the few spots in Austria where all the accommodation’s ski-in, ski out – step outside each day and enjoy first tracks while everyone else is making their way up the mountain.
Surrounded by peaks on all sides and overlooking valley below, Hochsölden itself is a spectacular spot. There’s just a handful of hotels and not much else here, so you’ll be spending your off-slope hours simply relaxing and unwinding. But as the accommodation’s all high-end, with luxurious spas and gourmet dining, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a reason to venture far anyway.
For one of the most scenic après picks around, head over to the Sky Bar at the Schöne Aussicht hotel. Sit back on the panoramic roof terrace and sip your favourite tipple while the sunsets behind snow-capped summits – spot on. Or for a bit more action, you can hop on the gondola or shuttle bus down to Sölden and get stuck into some of Austria’s liveliest nightlife.
The ski-in, ski-out hamlet of Hochsölden gives you direct access to Sölden’s 145km ski area. Beginners can learn the basics on the gentle terrain around the Giggijoch mountain station. More experienced skiers can cruise the smooth slopes of the resort’s two glaciers. Or for more of a challenge, carve down 10km of linked reds and blacks from Hainbachjoch to Sölden.
