The village is a traditional Austrian parish that sits high up in the mountains giving access to some good high altitude skiing and snowboarding. Obergurgl Apres Ski
Obergurgl has some good apres ski to be found when the afternoon tired legs start to kick in. Head to Nederhutte at Gaisberg for live music and dancing on the tables when the lifts close. You can then ski down to the village and head to some of the bars at the foot of the lifts to carry on partying. Later on in the evening the Stadl barn is very lively and the Josl Keller is a popular choice of many. For late night dancing there is a disco that has music for all ages or head to the casino in the Hotel Hochfirst for drinks into the wee small hours. Off the slopes pedestrians can ride the gondolas to meet friends for lunch or there are 12Km of hiking paths. Alternatively head to Solden for it’s leisure facility and shopping – about 20mins away.
Obergurgl has fantastic access to the slopes as the skiing starts and finishes in the village itself which means that you can ski back to most of the properties at the end of the day. The high altitude of the resort and the 90% snowmaking ensure that the snow sure slopes will appeal to most people. Obergurgl links in with Hochgurgl by gondola so that you have access to their high, gentle bowls. Beginners are well looked after on the Mahdstuhl nursery slopes where the ski school will put you through your first turns. Intermediates will find a good number of red runs to play on and some great skiing through the trees around the Steinmann lift. Hochgurgl also offers a good variety of long runs. More advanced skiers and boarders can get their knees warmed up on the bumps on the Hohe Mut. There is also some excellent off piste to discover with a guide. If you enjoy ski touring the hire a guide and go for some exhilarating treks.
