Saas Fee is a spectacular high-altitude mountain resort where the Saas glacier is known as the ‘Pearl of the Alps’. The village is made up of narrow streets lined by attractive old chalets. The village is car free and maintains a fantastic village atmosphere that is helped along by the cow sheds housing the cow’s for the Winter. Ski chalets, hotels and apartments are all available to book for those perfect Saas Fee ski holidays. Ski weekends are also available to book in Saas Fee.
Saas Fee offers good and varied après ski. There are little snow-bars near the lifts that are all pretty lively especially when the sun is shining. After dinner Nesti’s and the Alpen-Pub keep going until 1am. If you fancy really partying until the early hours then head to Poison for shots and dancing. Off the slopes the whole of the Hannig mountain is dedicated to walking, paragliding and tobogganing. The leisure centre has a 25m pool, indoor tennis courts and a sun bed area. There are also a few goo museums including a bakery where children can bake their own bread. There is also a toboggan ride and the world’s largest ice cave.
Saas Fee’s upper slopes are largely gentle whilst the lower mountain, below the glacier, is steeper and rougher in terrain. Beginners will find that Saas Fee has excellent skiing and boarding for learning. There are large nursery areas at the edge of the village and an excellent ski school to learn with. Progression will lead you up to the gentle blue’s on Felskinn and at the top of the mountain where you can head down to Langfluh. Saas Fee is absolutely ideal for intermediates as there is plenty of cruising to be done. Gradients range from gentle blues to steeper reds that can build up to small moguls. For more of a challenge head over to Langfluh. The Fee glacier offers year round skiing and boarding with guaranteed snow from 3500m. More advanced skiers will enjoy the top of Felskinn as there is some excellent powder skiing and boarding to be found alongside some steep and heavily mogulled runs. Off piste is extremely limited as the crevasse danger is extreme. However, there are extensive touring possibilities. There is a board park with good facilities including a half-pipe, fun-park and boarder cross. Cross country skiers will find a good local trail at the edge of the village with plenty more down in the Saas valley.
