In 1962, the resort of Vail opened its doors to skiers from around the globe, and the Lodge at Vail was the first hotel to house them. Today, the Lodge is still as famous as it was half a century ago and still boasts its intimate, alpine charm and chalet-style décor.

The hotel was refurbished in 2014 and although it retains its original allure, has added some newer, modern amenities to its portfolio. The outdoor ‘Pool One’ – named in honour of being the first swimming pool in Vail, as well as its proximity to Gondola One – is located in the hotel’s courtyard and is the perfect place to warm up after skiing. There are two in-ground hot tubs, sandwiching with a fireplace, a well-serviced bar selling a range of cocktails and small plates, and various outdoor fire pits with seating – an attractive, warming space to catch up with your friends with a drink in hand.

The Lodge’s RockResorts spa is also somewhere to shout about. The warming colours and sophisticated wood and stonework make it the epitome of relaxation. The spa houses a sauna, steam room, hot tubs and a tranquility room to relax in, as well as 11 treatment rooms which offer everything from massages to facials – definitely worth spending at least one afternoon here, that’s for sure.

The hotel rooms are also comfortable with large, welcoming beds, cosy seating areas, spacious bathrooms and with lovely finishing touches. And the staff are highly praised for their service, so don’t hesitate to let them know if something’s wrong.

The Gondola One – your passage to Vail’s excellent ski area – is literally steps away from the entrance to the Lodge, meaning the mountains are never far from reach. And, what’s more, the hotel offers complimentary ski valet and storage on the mountain, so you’ll never have to lug around your equipment again. And when the sun begins to set and everyone’s ready for something to eat, Vail’s array of restaurants, bars and shops are on your doorstep – the resort was built around the hotel, after all. Inside the AAA award-winning Lodge at Vail, there are also two renowned eateries, Elway’s and Cucina’s, which you can eat at for an extra charge.
